In July 1991, a block of Marseille soap made in Saint-Marthe received its honours by getting into the Book of Records.
For its dimensions – it was 6m in length, 1.5m in height and weighed 21 tons - it is the biggest block of soap ever produced in the world. Presented at the biennial event for contemporary art in Lyon, by the sculptor Fabrice Hybert, it had to be poured into the bin of a semi-trailer - the tanks in the factory were not big enough. Removing it from the "mould" posed some problems as well because they needed a specialised crane driver to get it out of its container.
